May Gin Monthly

Well, I may not have gone to Copenhagen or Cornwall as planned but, what with homeschooling, the rise and rise of virtual gin tastings and – of course – #GinADayMay, it’s still been an incredibly busy month!

Booze News

If there’s been much booze news this month I think I’ve missed most of it! However, #GinADayMay did reveal some exciting exploits including the forthcoming release of Navy Strength Gins from Colonsay and The Gower Gin Company, an Oak Aged Gin from Pin Gin and something new from Campfire Gin too although they won’t be drawn on exactly what as yet!

New Gin Alerts

And that’s far from all! Official new gin releases include Lone Wolf’s Cactus & Lime Gin, Biggar’s Biggar Strength Gin, Pickering’s four “picnic-sized” flavoured gins and Silent Pool’s Colorado High CBD Gin packed with 200mg of “highest grade” CBD oil. There’s also Sipsmith’s Chilli & Lime Gin – the first in their new Sipping Series – which makes an amazing Mojito, and 6 O’Clock Gin’s new collaboration with chef Romy Gill MBE; a delicious Mango, Ginger & Lime Gin inspired by the unique flavours of India.

My Month in Gin

Unsurprisingly my month was dominated by #GinADayMay! It was a huge success this year with lots of new faces joining in and far most posts and greater engagement than last year. Thank you to everyone who took part and made it such fun. I’ll be writing a recap in the days (weeks?!) to come but until then, here are all my posts for the month.

Incredibly, I also found time to take part in a few more online events including a tasting of Hedonism Garden Swift Sauternes Aged Gin with Hedonism Wines and Barney of Capreolus Distillery and two tastings with Sipping Rooms; Tarquin’s Dry Gin and Downton Abbey English Rhubarb Gin. While I’ve long been a fan of Tarquin’s it was fantastic to get a look behind the scenes at the distillery which I had planned to visit in May. On the other hand, the Downton Abbey Gin, made by Harrogate Tipple, was totally new to me and a complete revelation especially when served in Amy Edgley’s outstanding Otterly Great Gimlet! Sipping Room’s next event, on Wednesday 10th June, will introduce us to Salcombe Distillery’s Rosé Sainte Marie Gin; register here for your free ticket and/or to pick up a bottle with a 10% discount.

Welcome to My Collection

I have received so many amazing gins this month I don’t know what I can say other than thank you all for all your generosity! From the more classic gins such as Withers and Tarquin’s to the Navy Strengths from Biggar and Junimperium to rhubarb gins, flavoured gins and even Inshriach’s lockdown liqueurs I think I’ve got something from pretty much every corner of the gin world!

Catching Up and Looking Forward

#GinADayMay may be over but there’s still plenty to keep you busy in lockdown including Junipalooza’s Virtual-palooza, Sipping Room’s Salcombe Gin tasting, and World Gin Day which promises more online tastings, virtual tours via IG-live and gin-laced parties via zoom! Have fun and don’t forget to share your celebrations with #WorldGinDay! 🍸🛎🛎
