That Boutique-y Gin Company’s Advent Calendar 2017

IMG_0304

Boozy advent calendars have to be the best addition to the Christmas festivities since a stuffed stocking first appeared at the foot of your bed! And, better still, 2017 has seen the line-up grow larger than ever. From rum and bourbon to absinthe and mezcal, there is something for every spirit lover. There’s even a Naga Chilli Vodka Escalation Advent Calendar with each of the twenty-four daily drams of vodka increasing in heat from 10,000 to 240,000 scovilles! But one of the newest additions to the market, and almost certainly the most beautiful, is That Boutique-y Gin Company‘s first ever Advent Calendar.

Launched in March 2017, That Boutique-y Gin Company is the world’s first independent gin bottler, working with some of the industry’s best distillers and distilleries to produce exciting, experimental gins which they then bottle, label and market themselves. The fact that, just eight months after their launch, they have more than enough gins to fill an advent calendar is testament to both their productivity and their success.

In keeping with their brand image and bottle labels, their first advent calendar also features the stunning work of Grace J Ward. Grace has depicted an array of tempting cocktails sitting under the watchful gaze of the moon, a reference no doubt to Boutique-y Gin’s own Moonshot Gin; the botanicals for which were sent into near-space (over 24km) and exposed to an air pressure of less than 1/100th of that at sea level! Moonshot Gin is hidden in one of the twenty-four wax-sealed 3cl drams tucked away inside the advent calendar and – spoiler alert – it’s far from the only bonkers one in there!

Take Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin, for instance; it undoubtedly tastes of pineapple but whether or not it tastes of gin is much more debatable… However, if classic gins are more your thing then you’ll be delighted to find the wonderful World Gin Day Gin, made in collaboration with Emma Stokes aka Gin Monkey, and featuring one botanical from every continent (including a tiny amount of Antarctic sea salt!). There’s also a wealth of gins from many of the finest distilleries around the world, including London’s 58 Gin and East London Liquor Company, Sweden’s Hernö and America’s FEW Spirits.

And if that wasn’t already enough, That Boutique-y Gin Company have something really special to help you get into the festive spirit on Christmas Eve! Without giving too much away, Yuletide Gin’s botanicals include Christmas Tree needles, edible gold flakes, and a whole gingerbread house! Did I mention they err on the side of bonkers?

You may not have heard of most, or indeed any, of the gins in this calendar but don’t let that put you off. With flavoured expressions, Old Toms, cask-aged gins and even the world’s best London Dry contained within, there really is something for everyone. Although, if you’re anything like me, you’ll be keeping them all to yourself! Let advent be-gin!
