About me

Hello! I’m Sarah Miller, a freelance drinks writer, judge & consultant.

I’ve always been partial to a G&T but back in the day that meant a Gordon’s & Schweppes. Or perhaps a Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray. I drank the gins that were readily available in bars, supermarkets and my parents’ booze cabinet. Two fortuitous moments changed all that: In the summer of 2014 I won tickets to Gin Journey‘s London Gin Experience and learnt about the history of gin at Beefeater and about the craft gin renaissance at Sipsmith. Then in the summer of 2015 I won 10 bottles of premium gin from 31 Dover. There was no looking back….

I launched this blog in 2016 and was invited to judge Craft Distilling Expo’s Gin of the Year – and what turned out to be the first of many spirits competitions – in 2017. Since then I’ve been honoured to judge for many more competitions including the World Gin AwardsThe Gin Guide Awards, the International Wine and Spirit Competition, The Global Spirits Masters, The Spirits Business Awards, Craft Distilling Expo’s RTD of the Year, the American Distilling Institute International Spirits Competition, The Gin Cooperative Awards, Great Taste, The Gin To my Tonic Awards and the International Spirits Challenge.

I also write for a selection of publications – including Gin Magazine, Club Oenologique and IWSC – and am delighted to be the spirits columnist for New Zealand’s Drinksbiz Magazine. You can find all my freelance writing here.

I was also over the moon to be shortlisted for IWSC’s Emerging Talent in Spirits Communication award in both 2022 and 2023, and for Consumer Drinks Communicator of the Year 2024 in the People’s Choice Drinks Awards

Want to know even more about me and how I ended up doing what I do? Read my first column for Drinksbiz or check out my interview in The Gin Guide, The Gin Cooperative’s Meet the Blogger column and my Meet the Team interview in Gin Magazine.
